Concours d'Elegance of America at St. John
WOW - what a weekend! We started Thursday morning with a caravan to Brooklyn, Michigan getting there in time for lunch then over to Michigan International Speedway where some of the Concours vehicles were coming to preregister and get inspected for the Concours Track Event. This was the first annual event that gives Concours vehicle owners an opportunity to drive their historic beauties at high speeds in a safe environment on the MIS track. There were about thirty vehicles at the track which were staged by class and allowed to drive the at regulated speeds.
CLC was the exclusive volunteer group for the MIS Drive and 28 of us were there on Friday to help coordinate the event. After a torrential downpour overnight, the rain stopped about 10AM, they dried the track and the vehicles started to run.
After all the Concours cars had their track time, it was our turn. Eighteen CLC members (and friends) drove their Corvettes on the track. We all now have a very different appreciation for what those NASCAR drivers do every weekend.
The weekend concluded with all the MIS workers being allowed to park their Corvettes on the St. John site for the Concours d'Elegance show. We all enjoyed the day looking at all the wonderful Concours vehicles. If you missed this great event, be sure to make time next year as it is truly a fantastic experience - Tom G.
